Born in Tooting, London. Pierre's family moved to Deal, Kent in 1991. Aged 11, he found an old beat-up classical guitar in the cellar and has been picking and strumming guitars ever since! "I don't know where the thirst to play music comes from! I traced the family tree once, and to my knowledge, it would seem, my ancestors we're all tone deaf! All very nice you understand, but tone deaf nevertheless!"
With no formal musical training, and to the detriment of his schoolwork, Pierre Vincent put the hours in right from the start. Attracted to acoustic music by the likes of Dylan & Cohen, it wasn't long before he began writing his own songs and busking them in the vibrant streets of Canterbury.
After an all too brief stint in Art College and many, dead end jobs, music and performing live still had a strong hold on the then 21 year old. Picking up the bass, he joined a 5 piece Rock & Roll outfit called FREE BEER. "Some pubs actually refused to put the poster up!" During that time Pierre had the opportunity to play with some truly gifted characters... "Pete Proud, John Kempshall, Chris Clayson... In a lot of ways, they were all incredibly influential on me at the time... I learned a lot, touring with those guys! "
In 2006, he joined musical forces with Luton singer/songwriter, Bessie Sayce. Together they formed The Dealers and co-wrote their first album: 'Listen...' which won them the title of "Best Unsigned Acoustic Act in Britain." The duo won Rochesters 'Folk Idol' competition which helped establish their name as professional songwriters in Kent. They lived in, and toured the country for 2 years in a motor home, until Bessie decided to settle down in Kings Lynn. The Dealers have had many incarnations over the years... from duo, to trio, to 6 piece and back, Some honorary Dealers include Nigel Fiest (Harp), Russell Grooms (Electric Guitar), Lee Charles (Mandolin), Paul Clifford (Drums), Pete & Dan Underwood (Guitar & Keys), Jacob Pidduck (Keys & Flute) and Gemma Gayner (Violin) & Malcolm Gayner (Djembe & Trejon).
In October 2010, Pierre decided to end The Dealers and is now pursuing a solo career. Occasionally joined by singer/songwriter, Keith James (Nick Drake tour & The Great Canadian Songbook) & guitarist, Peter Gazey (Tim Edey Band) With a new album and European tour on the cards, 2012 promises to be a year to look out for Pierre Vincent. |
